The Morning So Far...

I have successfully filed the Ohio Sales tax from marcon on-line. They tried to require electronic filing a few years ago and it was so messed up they went back to paper. They revamped the system and made it mandatory again this year.
The folks at the Ohio Dept of Taxation help line totally rock. Everyone I have talked to there over the years have been friendly, helpful, and not hurried.

Katie is watching Word World on PBS and Julie is trying to drive the scooter into the close hamper. I keep telling her it isn't going to fit.

I think I'll go take a shower.

Ohio is decidedly non-trivial as taxes go. Particularly due to the city taxes; most states only have zero to a handful of cities that have an income tax; Ohio has something like 200.

The amazing thing to me is that, as far as I can tell, EVERY STATE develops electronic filing on their own, even though they're all doing pretty similar things (disregarding the actual return/law of course). They could pool the majority of the infrastructure, or at least the programming specific to the infrastructure, but they don't. They just keep paying for it over and over again.

Heck, most states don't even pool WITHIN the state between corporate and individual tax departments.

On the other hand, the software for job postings and applications for Michigan State university and Thee (sic) Ohio State University are amaaaazingly similar (except for the color scheme, of course).

(They used to look even more alike than they do now.)

Hmmm, it seems to me that we've seen the scooter thing before.

The Ohio Department of Taxation representatives were helpful? That's what you receive when you have taxation with representation...*ducks*
