Central Continental Bakery in Mt. Prospect is awesome.

I recommend the Mieneke Car Care Center on Elmhurst Rd. also in Mt. P. They do a good job and won't sell you repairs you don't need.

I used to visit that bakery all the time when I was still taking the train downtown.

!! I grew up in Mt Prospect. My grandmother was a reference librarian at the main library, and they lived on the residential street (Maple?) that all the parades went down. My dad took the train from there into Chicago for work.

Small world. Not many people even know where Mt. Prospect *is*.

When I was growing up there (corner of School and Isabella), The maps usually skipped right from Des Plaines to Arlington Heights. By the mid to late 1970s, that stopped being the case.

So of course my family moved to Prospect Heights.

The bakery started out south of the tracks, and then later moved into the space formerly occupied by Meeske's Groceries.

I regret to say I have not taken the time to go there since they moved, which fact seems odd to me, exiled as I now am to a bakery-free area.

Mieneke here in Omaha is pretty darn good too. That stupid Jeep of ours will sometimes just die and whatever is wrong with it, towing fixes it. Paul even took a neighbor out with him to retrieve it once so they could try to fix it and no dice. And as soon as they got it off the the tow truck, turned right over. They not only didn't laugh about it - after the second time in as many weeks - he tried to explain to Paul how to take a hammer and hit the starter while somebody else turns it over.

Seemed kind of appropriate since we named it the TARDIS....
