A Request...

I am in an amazingly foul mood today. I have no clue as to why.
I need a smile.
So, what makes you smile?

Listening to silly songs from way too long ago. The Monkees "Gonna buy me a dog" never fails.

The amazing grin on my middle child when he conquered a fear this weekend.

I dunno, the last couple sets of pictures that billroper's posted on LJ have made me grin. :-) Had a few LOL moments watching "My Cousin Vinny" last night. The latest installment of "Partially Clips" is fun, though not as much so as some other recent strips. The latest "Girl Genius" made me smile, not with its humor but with its terrific artwork. "WALL-E" made me smile and laugh repeatedly.

BTW, I know you guys probably don't want your friends lists to grow to the size of mine, but I sometimes attempt to post funny songs and other amusing things when I'm not as busy as I am now, so if you and billroper ever want to friend me, I'll do my best to provide some smiles. I hope to post the lyrics to the two songs I wrote for Bill at DucKon ("Lincoln Park Putzes" and "The Dishwasher") sometime in the next few weeks.

Friending is done.
I am looking forward to the Towing song. I'm sorry I missed it.

The fact that my cat is coming home from the vet today, after having to stay a week with a urinary tract obstruction..

That's awesome! It's amazing that that anecdote has been up on the Net for over five years and this is the first I've run across it.

billroper said y'all had tried to sleep windows open and it got unexpectedly hot and muggy. That always grumpifies me.

When it gets hot here, I do the "Time for Timer" thing, and make frozen popsicles (in the ice cube trays if no popsicle molds) from juice or kool-aide. Watching my little one's face as she gets an ice cube with *flavor* makes me smile. Also pretty to have a red cube or two in a lemonade cup.

Petting my cats. (Kitty therapy is wonderful.)

Hearing favorite songs I haven't heard in years.

Getting stuff done.

The kids of course.
Is Katie getting verbal yet? Look forward to it, and listen, because that gets ROFL funny.

My most recent smile came yesterday. On the 12 hour bus ride from Flin Flon to Winnipeg where we had gone to attend the memorial service for one of Elizabeth's cousins I finished reading Ray Bradbury's "Farewell Summer". This book is in essence the second half of "Dandelion Wine". It takes place during the Indian Summer following the events of the earlier book. It was a delight to read and brought back a host of childhood memories. I smiled a lot, laughed out loud a few times and wiped a tear or two away at the end. If you have a copy why not give it a go.

On checking email this morning I found this smile waiting for me. "Two Sides to Every Story"
A girl asked her mother, "where did the human race come from?"
Her mom said, "God made Adam and Eve and they had children and that's where we all came from."
The next day the girl asked her father, "where did the human race come from?"
He told her, "We all evolved from some early form of apes."
Confused, the girl went back to her mom. "You told me God made humans but dad says we came from monkeys. How can that be?"
"It's simple" her mom said. I was telling you about my side of the family, your father was explaining his."

Warm hugs.

Looking out the office window at the people passing by. The people-watching is excellent here.

The mounds of boxes getting smaller :).

I also found, on the 4th of July, that I could see some fireworks being set off from a celebration at a local park. This made me very happy since over the years I have lost most of my patience for crowded festivities but I don't like fireworks on tv. So live fireworks from my couch - very cool.

The ride downhill (1.75 miles of hill) to my house at the end of riding my bike to the store, through green fields and under shady trees.

Plus I have been constructing coral reefs for my D&D game. Page after page of coral reefs mapped out in three colors for how deep they are. I got new color pencils specially. It's very peaceful making coral reefs.

Today on the bus a man in a conservative business suit with a briefcase and a stern mustache started singing, loudly, about everything we passed. "Oh don't you know that this is Fiiiiiiiiiir Streeeeeeeet! I wonder why that man is iiiiiiiin the crooooooooosssswalk!" There was a bridge about, well, a bridge, and the exciting conclusion when we got to his stop: "I hope that I'm not laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate! For church!" I applauded. I don't know if he was crazy, drunk, or just excellently jolly, but it made me smile and smile.

Pondering how lucky I was to have you as my sister and sole sibling. Don't get no better, girl!

The unexpected chance to talk to friends you've loved for 20+ years, but somehow only seem to cross paths with on the fly.

My son's first original joke.

A row of 3/4 size sparrows lined up on a twig by their nest exercising their wings under papa's supervision.

Miss Cloud lying on her back and looking at me over her shoulder with a clear "you look funny upside down, Mommy" expression.

Finding out, entirely unexpectedly, that you have made a genuine and positive difference in the life of someone you care deeply about and admire.

Watching the cat watching the fan ... what a large bug
Spencer the cat sat right in front of the floor fan.
Stared at it.
For a long time (in cat time).

She usually sits behind the fan, in the air stream but not out front side.

Who knows what new kitty zen she found, watching the fan spin.

Or else thought "oh my way what fast buggy wings"

Re: Watching the cat watching the fan ... what a large bug
Then of course, I called you to ask you to explain my cat's behavior, yet again.
Nice to laugh with you.

I got the third season of Mad About You; they're preparing Thanksgiving dinner, and Helen Hunt gives Paul Reiser the potato peeler, and eventually has to take it back because of how slowly he's peeling.

And you know why that makes me smile...
