Eugene the Plumber came this morning...

I had managed to plug the kitchen drain pretty thoroughly on Wednesday. I'm not sure what I put down the disposal, but it did a good job. I tried drain cleaner over night and finally called Rotorooter Thursday afternoon. They were polite and plesant and could have gotten me somebody that afternoon, but I had to be someplace else.

Eugene appeared right on time, calling once for directions. He was neat, clean and courtious. A Romanian immagrant, his English was excelent. He blushed a bit when I complemented him on it.

He rodded the 60' or so feet of kitchen drain pipe and gave me a gentle but firm lecture on what should and should not go down the disposal. He also fixed the drain basket connection that has leaked pretty much since we have moved into the house.
He also had some gentle but firm words for the folks who put in the plumbing in the first place. The best he could say for it was that it was code, but he was surprised that we only had the thing rodded twice in the the years we have lived here.

Three hours and $400.00 later he went on his way. And you know what? The kitchen doesn't smell funny anymore.

Well, have to pack up Katie so we can go meet Roper for dinner.
