If you are going to Worldcon...

When the Hugo nominating ballot comes, I strongly suggest you nominate Ray van Tilburg for Best Fan Artist.
Yes, Ray makes is living with his art, but by the rules he would only be eligible in the Fan Artist category.
He has produced some of the awesomest tee shirts for conventions allover the country.

Go look at their website http://www.offworlddesigns.com (I don't know how to do links, sorry.)

You can nominate weather you have a supporting or attending membership.

Cool idea.

Let me see if I can do this in a way that's readable. LJ entries can use HTML tags, those things bounded by a "less than" sign and a "greater than" sign. You can set up a link using the <a> tag. First, you put in what's called the start tag, then the text, then the (big surprise) end tag. The difference between the two is that the end tag has a forward slash (/) before the name of the tag.

Within a start tag, you can enter values in these things called attributes. Basically, it's a special name, an equals sign, and a value within quotes. So, if you type this in your LJ entry or comment:

<a href="http://www.offworlddesigns.com">Ray's site</a>

it'll look like this:

Ray's site

I'm not sure what the tag name "a" is supposed to mean, but "href" is a Hyperlink (or is it Hypertext?) Reference, meaning a pointer to the place you want to link to.

That's probably a lot more than you wanted to know, but in this case, I figured better TMI than TLI.

(The 'a' stands for 'anchor', but what a hyperlink has to do with keeping a boat from drifting away I can't tell you.)

FYI, if you put the fully qualified url in the text (with the http and the slashes), LJ automatically makes it a link, and if it's just the site name, it will actually get it right -- so the original post already works. You only need to use the <a> thing if you want to display a different name than the actual address of the site (or if it's a long messy URL with punctuation that screws up the automatic thing).

He did a dynamite job with the MoonBase ConFusion tshirt. I second the motion.

You may want to post a message in hugo_recommend about this.

Also, note that you don't have to go to the Worldcon in Japan to be eligible to nominate. All of the attending and supporting members of L.A.con IV, last year's Worldcon, as well as anyone who is a attending or supporting member of Nippon 2007 by January 31, 2007, is eligible to cast a 2007 Hugo Nominating Ballot.

Thank you, I didn't know the a membership in last year's Worldcon got you nominating privileges.
And I will, indeed, post to the recommendations list.

That's right; members of a given Worldcon get the right to nominate (but not vote on the final ballot) for the following year's Hugo Awards. If you were a member of L.A.con IV but not of Nippon 2007, you should have received a Hugo Nominating Ballot from Nippon 2007. Members of Nippon 2007 will get their ballots in the next Progress Report, which I think is at the printers right now.
