Well, crap!

The votes are in and the WorldCon in '08 will be in Denver.

I had good friends on both the Chicago and Columbus bids and I liked the venues in both cities.
Denver has a spread out site and apparently is not across Labor day weekend, yet again.

I expect we will go and we will deal, but if I have to make a choice between the hotel near the convention center and the hotel where the filking is I expect In won't get much singing done.

So, I'm gonna go out and support the Hell out of Kansas City in '09. We haven't had a WorldCon in the Midwest since... um... Chicago in 2000.

Ditto on well, crap! Especially since I just, on impulse, plunked down $75 for a friend membership for Columbus ("just" meaning two weeks ago at ArmadilloCon in Austin, where Columbus was the only bid represented). Oh, well: Denver's close enough that I'll probably go anyway, especially since I have friends in the area. Have to see about converting fairly soon...

And double ditto on supporting KC...

BIG disappointment for me, too....
I guess we have to just come visit you guys in Chicago then, maybe in combination with OVFF 08 ...

The filkers could all just try to get rooms in the convention center hotel....

Apparently, Denver doesn't have the convention center hotel, if I'm correctly informed. That hotel won't deal with them.

Hoo boy. So, we either pay premium prices for the CC hotel, or pay somewhat-under-premium prices for a hotel a ways away? Eeugh.

Good God, there IS a convention center hotel, and yet the con is three blocks from the convention center, and yet people voted for the bid?

There's a whole bunch of voters out there who really need a good whack with a clue by four. I'm sure they'll be bitching about how much the facilities suck in August of '08, but that's a little late.

Maybe I just need to stop thinking of myself as a person who goes to Worldcons. Even when they're located where it makes sense for me to go they cost waaay too much.

Gosh darn it all. I was really looking forward to going to a WorldCon in the near future. Oh well, let's hope for KC.

So is anyone going to NASFiC in St. Louis next year?

I need to give them a call....

I'll be there, assuming I got space in the dealers' room.

Does the Kansas City bid have the Muehlebach Hotel?
