Bee Encounter...

Julie has officially decided that she doesn't want swimming lessons at this point. So she and I were sitting in the shade this morning while Katie was in class. We were next to a bed of plants that look like hostas on steroids, with stalks of lovely pale purple bell-like flowers. As we sat and chatted a bee bumbled by, investigating the blooms. I called Julie's attention to the bee without calling it one. (I didn't want her to freak.) So we quietly watched the "fly" climb in and out of the bells, gathering nectar and pollen. She was fascinated. And I was delighted by her calm concentration. I did my best to answer her questions, but I'm no insect expert.

So perhaps it is time to look for a not too detailed picture book on bugs and gardeny things.
Any recommendations?
