Let's Play A Game...

Enough whining. let's have fun.

I have noticed, now that I am a mom, that the things in my pockets at the end of the day are more diverse and interesting (and sometimes yucky,) than they used to be.

last night I found:
my keys
a size N purple crochet hook
an orange Hot Wheel car
a half used card of Cepacol lozenges
3 beads, red, aqua and purple
misc coins totaling 43 cents
a crumpled grocery bag
a purple elastic hair band
and a wad of paper napkins.

So, what's in your pocket?

Mine don't tend to vary from day to day.
Right front--keys. Right rear--phone and earbuds. Left front--iPod, which functions as my PDA. Left rear--wallet.

Sometimes the key pocket accumulates some change. Right now I have a quarter and a dime. Shirt pockets sometimes get things like handkerchiefs and earplugs. Right now they're empty.

Why does this game make me think of The Hobbit? :-)

Like Cat mine don't tend to vary except for work/non-work of the front left, which either has keys (school), wallet(pharmacy) or nothing.

Right front- chapstick and phone
Back - 4 poptop tabs and a growing grocery list

Ah yes. The "you know you're a parent when..." pocket check. Here at the end of the working week (which contains little in the way of time out of the house with the kids) my pockets only have boring things in (keys, train ticket, cash, credit cards, tissue, purse the cash has fallen out of, headphones, mobile phone, gloves), weekends tend to leave them with more... interesting contents :-)

I am course am not a parent, and thus my pockets are boring:
An LED flashlight (white)
A pocket knife (Leatherman Squirt s4; scissors are good; pliers are on my belt)
a MicroSD card reader with 8 GB of storage in it
A Yosemite Quarter (states, I have, territories, I have; parks, I'm behind on)
And in my wallet:
Eyeglass screwdriver
Diffraction grating
Flat magnifier
Reference card of physical constants (the periodic table is now on my iPhone)
Torx bit modified to open Mac Pluses (Thanks, Sam! My design, his work)
GI can opener

Pretty much the same here (my parenting days are past me). Left front: wallet, checkbook, nail clipper, pen, pencil*. Right front: keys, work ID. Right change pocket: change, phone, USB file backup, daily page printed of notes spreadsheet. Right rear: two bandanas used as handkerchiefs. Left rear: garbage. If I'm wearing a shirt with a pocket that day, it gets the pen, pencil, phone, USB drive, and notes.

* Ordinarily I prefer to keep the pen, pencil and nail clipper on the right, but at the moment there's a hole in that pocket needs mending.

And now the other pocket has a hole. Time to seek out the sewing kit.

Three more items and you'd have material for a song.

Every day the following - all in pants (and most days now, this is jeans)
Left back - wallet
Right front - main set of keys (both cars, house); comb; Swiss army knife; change (today: 6 quarters, 3 dimes, 2 nickles - all CDN $, of course).
Left front - card holder, other set of keys (extra for my car, our daughter's house); small blue pill box (my pills for a lunch or dinner out of the house as I am diabetic).

Extras today - a tissue (I cleaned my glasses earlier); a receipt for groceries the other day (it was in my winter coat and I wanted to make sure it was not for a purchase I should keep it for - before I through it out).

Given that I've basically been living in my robe since Wednesday morning, all I have in my pockets are snotty Kleenexes. Shoulda got my flu shot when Carol did, dammit...

Right this moment? One pocket has my cell phone; the other a sandalwood crochet hook of indeterminate size.

On the "never to be forgotten" list, however, is the day I reached into my skirt pocket for a pen and pulled out a pacifier...in front of the judge, court reporter, opposing counsel, my client..... Worse was my own reaction - "Oh, dear. The babysitter's going to kill me!" - unfortunately said aloud. Fortunately that particular judge was also a parent, and laughed.

Lint, usually, but I found some money in the pockets of my laundry. Too bad it didn't have more zeros.
