I Needed That

FkO was a good time. Had charming conversations. Heard many good songs. Amazingly, really enjoyed 9 1/2 hour drive home. Didn't sing much but did manage to play "Request" for Judith. The chorus for that song came out of a couple of conversations she and I have had over the state of filk. (Judith, if you read this, the words and chords are at http://www.filker.com/songs/Request.html ) (Well, even if you don't read this they are anyway, but I will have to find another way to let you know.)

Three things stand out.

I got lots of hugs. I did not come from a hugging family, hugging is a bit strange to me. So if I seemed a bit stiff, that's why. Don't get the idea that I didn't appreciate them.

I was about to do something stupid and a friend gently talked me out of it. Thanks, Son.

Something happened that previously would have sent me into a major Sulk. Instead I chose my attitude and did something about it. (Thanks, Kathleen)

Life lessons. Gotta love 'em!

That's a really cool song! I wish I'd gotten to hear you sing more. I always enjoy that. You really have a nice voice and I think you write good songs! I always enjoy seeing you and Bill and now I'm really regretting not having given you a hug! I'm guessing that I have picked up on the "stiffness" and erroneously interpreted it as "not liking hugs" = duly noted for future reference. You guys are on my long list of
"people I didn't get to talk to darn it!" sigh...

Hope all is well and maybe we can plan some time at Duckcon or something. BTW - congrats on the attitude shift, that kind of thing is never easy.

I liked seeing you at FKO, though I'm sad that I think I only got to hear you sing once...*sniffle* But it was very nice seeing you and getting to chat some.

And I promise to eat my veggies next time. *grin*

Though my family hugged, I had some very close friends in the high-school and early-college years who preferred not to touch me, so meeting all the filkers who enthusiastically hug everyone they meet did feel a bit odd at first. Very nice, but it did take a while to get used to it.

I am not a "hug" type person either, so I understand where you're coming from :-)

Wish I had heard you sing!

I imagine you'll be at OVFF?
