Bits 'N Stuff...

I have to admit I am disappointed that Julie wouldn't wear the Boots costume. It turned out really nicely.

Since I didn't make a cake for my birthday, (ran out of time) I decided to make it this weekend. I made carrot cake from the Duncan Hines mix, augmented with coconut and pecans and substituting mashed banana for the oil. Roper, my ex-chemist, made the coconut pecan frosting. Katie helped me frost the cake. When I can get her to actually pay attention to what I am showing her she does learn.
When all was said and done we decided that we had already had too much sugar and will save the cake for tomorrow.

Julie discovered Almond Joys and thinks she is addicted. I know I let her have waaaaayyyy too much candy, but it's only once a year. She ran around like a gommog and finally fell asleep on the livingroom floor, stark naked, sucking her thumb and clutching her blankie.
Cute is a survival trait.

We had, at best, 25 trick-or-treaters. Sigh.
I am tired.
I think I'll call it a day.

It's all in how you measure it, isn't it :-) I think we had a similar number of trick-or-treaters (maybe a few less) and considered we'd had a good turn out.

The problem is that we still both remember the packs of kids that we were part of in our youth and expect to see more of them wandering around. I lived in family housing on Air Force and Navy bases when I was of trick or treating age, so pretty much every house played because every house had kids. And Gretchen's neighborhood was one of young families too, the subdivision having been delayed by the Great Depression and World War II, but laid out long before she lived there.

Nowadays, fewer families play and our little street is mostly not in the game, so most children don't come this way.

Saw the links to the costume photos and they were fun! Impressed with all the work you put in!! Carrot cake sounds yummy too :).

I think we had about the same number of trick-or-treaters, but since that was about ten times the number we had last year, I'm okay with that.

We do have a bunch of excess candy we need to get rid of, for values of "get rid of" that do not include me eating it.
